yes stem cells can be used for treatments. The Stem cell procedures and therapies of today, can be used to treat malfunctioning organs, damaged nerves, bone breakage, major burns, spinal cord injuries, birth defects etc.
Currently Reaserchers, Sientist and Physicans are working hard to design Stem Cell therapies that will be more effective than the current ones, and will be able to reduce risks to patients. Todays stem cell therapies rely on Stem Cells that are donated. This means that there is a risk of the donated Stem Cells becoming rejected by the patients body, instead of carrying out the role of replacing/restoring a malfunction. The future challenge is to be able to use a sample of a patients own stem Cells to produce tissue, that will create no risk of rejection from the patients body. This could be done through manipulating adult stem cells in laboratories and various other methods.
